CapabilitiesTesting methodology

Capabilities measures what the video generator can actually do.

Some AI girlfriend apps let you write your own video prompt, animate an image, request videos inside the chat, add audio, and create longer clips.

Others only give you one button that turns an image into a basic five-second animation.

We check exactly which options are available and whether they really work.

  • 6 evidence groups
  • 6 scored tests

Capabilities is organized into 6 evidence groups. Each group contains one scored test: Text-to-Video, Image-to-Video, Chat Video, Audio, Maximum Length, and Maximum Resolution.

Every test gets a score from 0 to 10.

We multiply each test score by how much it counts. We then add all the points together to calculate the final Capabilities score.

Capabilities makes up 34% of the Video score.

The stored test weights do not add up to 100%, so we convert them into the percentages below.

The live system gives Text-to-Video the smallest weight. Image-to-Video, Chat Video, and Audio count the most. Capabilities makes up of the Video score.

How the score is calculated

  1. Each test gets a score from 0–10

  2. Test score × how much it counts

    Example: 10 × 5.68% = 0.57 points

  3. We do this for every test

  4. We add all the points together

  5. Final Capabilities score

    Counts for 34% of Video

Special cases

Not Applicable

If a test does not apply, we remove it and spread its weight across the remaining tests.

Unknown

If we cannot verify a result, the test receives a score of 0.

Manual adjustment

In rare cases, we may adjust a score when the calculated result is clearly unfair. We always record the reason.

Video generation is still a fairly new feature in AI girlfriend apps.

The difference between platforms is massive.

One app might let you write your own prompt, add audio, create a 60-second video, and generate it directly inside the chat.

Another might only let you click Turn into video after creating an image. You cannot explain what should happen, and the finished clip may only last five seconds.

Both apps can say they offer video generation, but they clearly do not offer the same experience.

That is why we look beyond whether a video button exists. We check how many ways you can create videos, how long they can be, whether they include audio, and the highest resolution available.

We use a paid account and test every available way to create a video.

For Text-to-Video, we try to create three videos using only written prompts.

For Image-to-Video, we use three different source images.

For Chat Video, we request one video in three separate chats.

We then generate three videos with audio requests and check separately for speech, sound effects, and music.

We record the longest video length the app offers and generate one video at that setting to confirm it works.

Finally, we download the highest-quality video and record its exact width and height.

Not every app uses the same video system.

Some platforms focus on image-to-video, while others give users a full text prompt. We score each option separately so one feature does not hide the absence of another.

A longer video is not automatically a better video. Longer clips have more time to warp the face, body, clothing, or background. Video quality is tested separately.

The same applies to resolution. A 1080p video can still look bad when the motion is broken or the character changes halfway through.

Audio support may also be limited. An app could support background music but not speech, or speech but no sound effects. We record which types actually work.

Capabilities may differ between devices, characters, subscription plans, or regions. Our results show what was available through the paid test account on the recorded test date.

Text-to-Video

1 scored test

Text-to-Video measures whether you can create a video using only a written prompt.

This gives you more control because you can describe the scene and what should happen instead of starting with an existing image.

Text-to-Video

Whether you can create a video using only a written prompt.

How we test

We enter three different video prompts. Each test starts with text only. We do not upload a source image. We check whether every prompt is accepted and produces a finished video.

What counts
  • A free-text video prompt
  • Video created without uploading an image
  • The user can describe the action or scene
  • A finished video from each test
What does not count
  • Turning an existing image into a video
  • Choosing only from preset actions
  • A marketing demo that users cannot access
  • A prompt box that still requires a source image
  • An attempt that never produces a video
Result shown

Yes — all 3 text-only videos were created

Image-to-Video

1 scored test

Image-to-Video measures whether you can turn an existing image into a video.

This is currently one of the most common ways AI girlfriend apps create videos.

Image-to-Video

Whether you can turn an existing image into a video.

How we test

We upload three different source images. We try to create one video from each image and record whether every attempt works.

What counts
  • Uploading a source image
  • Turning a generated image into a video
  • A finished video based on the selected image
  • The original character remaining visible in the result
What does not count
  • Text-to-Video without a source image
  • A slideshow made from several still images
  • A zoom effect that does not create real motion
  • A marketing preview
  • A generation that never finishes
Result shown

Yes — all 3 source images were turned into videos

Chat Video

1 scored test

Chat Video measures whether you can ask the AI character for a video inside the conversation.

This makes video feel like part of the relationship instead of a completely separate creation tool.

Chat Video

Whether you can ask the AI character for a video inside the conversation.

How we test

We request one video in three separate chats. We check whether the video is created and appears inside the conversation.

What counts
  • Requesting a video through a normal chat message
  • A playable video appearing inside the conversation
  • The video being connected to the current character
  • The feature working through normal paid access
What does not count
  • Opening a separate video generator
  • Receiving a link to another tool
  • Pre-recorded marketing videos
  • A static image shown as a video
  • A request that uses credits but produces nothing
Result shown

Limited — videos were received in 2 of 3 chats

Audio

1 scored test

Audio measures whether generated videos can include sound.

We check speech, sound effects, and music separately because an app may support one type but not the others.

Audio

Whether generated videos can include sound.

How we test

We generate three videos and request audio. Across the tests, we check for speech, sound effects, and music. We record which types are actually supported.

What counts
  • Spoken dialogue created with the video
  • Sound effects that match the scene
  • Background music generated or added by the app
  • Audio included in the finished video file
What does not count
  • Audio added later through outside software
  • A silent video
  • Voice messages outside the video
  • Music playing in the app interface
  • Audio advertised but missing from the downloaded file
Result shown

Limited — speech worked, but sound effects and music were unavailable

Scoring

We use the result categories below.

ResultScore
Yes — useful audio support worked across the tests10/10
Limited — only some audio types worked or restrictions applied5/10
No — generated videos were silent0/10

Maximum Length

1 scored test

Maximum Length measures the longest video the app lets you generate.

A five-second clip gives you very little time for a full action or scene. Longer videos give you more creative freedom.

Maximum Length

The longest video the app lets you generate.

How we test

We record the longest selectable video length. We then generate one video using that setting to confirm the full length actually works.

What counts
  • The longest duration normal users can select
  • A finished video generated at that duration
  • Length available through the tested paid plan
What does not count
  • Length promised only in marketing
  • Several short clips joined together outside the app
  • A setting that repeatedly fails
  • A longer length available only through private or unreleased access
Result shown

Maximum video length: 30 seconds

Maximum Resolution

1 scored test

Maximum Resolution measures the highest video quality you can download.

Higher resolution gives you more detail and makes the video look better on larger screens.

Maximum Resolution

The highest video quality you can download.

How we test

We generate a video using the highest-quality setting available. We download the finished file and record its exact width and height in pixels.

What counts
  • The highest resolution normal users can download
  • The actual dimensions of the finished video file
  • Resolution available through the tested subscription
What does not count
  • Resolution promised only on a pricing page
  • A large preview that downloads at a smaller size
  • Upscaling done through outside software
  • A quality setting that does not change the finished file
Result shown

Scoring

A maximum resolution of 1080p scores 8/10. The calculation engine uses these fixed resolution levels.
