Soooo you want to know whether AI CharFriend is a big fat yes or an epic pass huh? 

I get it.

AI roleplay chatbots are popping up faster than pimples on my forehead whenever I look at a chocolate bar. 

Worst thing of all? 99% Are straight-up:

• Trash. 
• Garbage. 
• A complete waste of money.

I’ve blown a good $500 on AI chatbots that sounded like a customer support bot.

That’s why I decided to buy this new app called AI CharFriend which so many people are raving about.

In this epic AI CharFriend review, I am going to tell you precisely what’s great and what’s not so great about it.

Who Created AI CharFriend?

It is unclear who the founder of AI CharFriend is. In the discord community, there’s the following message in the “Who Are We?” channel.

It clearly says that the founder is Ethan but if we go to the AI CharFriend website and check the “News” section, there’s a press release that states the founder and CEO is Michael Chan.

“AI CharFriend was founded by Michael Chan. Michael has studied computer science and founded AI CharFriend in 2022 intending to establish a platform where users can create their custom AI characters.”

I guess that Michael is indeed the founder and CEO. Ethan is just an alias because the founder wants to stay anonymous.

If you are someone like me and can spend hours thinking about some made-up fantasy scenario or that you are the protagonist in a movie you recently saw, AI CharFriend is going to be your holy bible.

It’s specifically built for role-playing fantasy scenarios.

If this sounds like you then AI CharFriend will knock your socks off. It’s got a vast library of anime characters allowing you to become the protagonist in your favorite anime.

If you are looking for virtual intimacy you might want to consider a dedicated AI girlfriend app like Candy AI, DreamGF AI, or Muah AI.

This allows you to build your own custom girlfriend from scratch, generate pictures, and get down to business (if you know what I mean). 🔥

Boomers

Hey man, I get it! Technology is evolving FAST. Twenty years ago, sending a text was a real hassle.

Nowadays, we can chat with AI chatbots that reply with hyper-realistic messages almost instantly.

It’s not for everyone…

Best Features of AI CharFriend 

I remember when I started reviewing AI chatbots 6 months ago. Besides Character AI there weren’t many flavors to pick from.

Not to mention every AI chatbot had exactly the same features.

AI CharFriend is nothing like that. It has some pretty unique features that I have never seen before, such as:

• AI group roleplay
• A storybook with characters from videogames
• An AI image generator

I know an Image generator doesn’t sound super fancy but most AI chatbots don’t have this functionality so I think it’s cool that CharFriend does. 

Let me break it down for you:

If you hop over to the website you’ll see this big purple button that says “Start a free chat!”.

If you click on it you’ll land on the discovery page, a gigant hub with all sorts of AI characters. I like how you don’t get hit with the hardcore NSFW images. 

I had this one time when I was checking out Crushon AI at my parent’s place. My mother walked past and the first thing she saw was this image:

Not exactly family-friendly, right?

Regular Characters

There aren’t THAT many AI characters compared to other AI chatbot apps like Yodayo, C.ai, Girlfriend GPT, and Crushon AI.

💡 CharFriend only has 108 SFW characters while the apps I just mentioned have hundreds if not thousands.

BUTT I am looking at character diversity and not quantity and in terms of diversity CharFriend hits a grand slam.

They’ve added both realistic characters like Pokimane, a famous Twitch streamer, anime, fantasy, and even video game characters.

I think it is safe to say that AI CharFriend has at least one AI roleplay scenario for every person – no matter what you are interested in.

CharFriend also offers fun text adventure games. In these games, you’re not just chatting with a character. Instead, the AI takes you on an exciting journey where your choices affect what happens in your story. 

It’s a cool way to experience different adventures.

Moving on to the 18+ department..

NSFW Characters

A lot of people think that ‘not safe for work’ is everything that has to do with sex and porn. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

NSFW material also covers topics such as:

• Acts of violence
• Criminal behavior
• Sexual scenes and nudity
• Harsh or offensive language
• Drug and substance misuse
• Shocking or unsettling images

Not the average stuff you talk about in kindergarten that’s for sure. 😂

Anyway, that’s why you’ll see a lot of characters like Alice, someone who looks normal at first glimpse but when you roleplay with her you discover that she’s actually a ruthless serial killer.

I think this is so much better than most AI chatbots that only focus on sexual content. The vast library of NSFW characters makes AI CharFriend an excellent character AI alternative, since C.AI doesn’t allows NSFW…

Just like literally every other AI chatbot on planet Earth, AI CharFriend has a customization section. It’s pretty simple to use since you only need to fill in a couple of fields:

• Nick name
• Avatar
• Persona
• Greeting

You: That’s all great Herman, but how good is the actual convo?

Good question.

Roleplay

To test out the roleplay I am going to chat with Alice the bully.

Get out of my way, you dweeb.
(Alice bumps on you, purposefully.)

Watch where you are going.

You can’t tell me what to do, worm!
(Alice pushes you so hard that you fall off your feet to the ground.)

What is your problem?

(She grabs your shirt.)
My problem…? How about yours!

Nothing!

Oh really!? Nothing wrong here!? Then explain this.
(She smacks you across the face with full force.)

That escalated quickly. 😂

I really like how they give more depth to the conversation (by putting information between brackets).

Overall, I would say the adult virtual roleplay experience of CharFriend is good. Very good. 

Also, I haven’t tweaked any settings yet…

There’s this button on top of each chat that supposedly improves the responses if you turn it on. But here’s the catch – it costs diamonds, and those diamonds mean spending actual money.

Let’s try it.

Andddd I noticed absolutely zero difference between the regular model and the expensive ones.

Group Roleplay

This is one of the unique features of AI CharFriend – AI group roleplay! 

If we click on the “Create” button you’ll see this option:

Let’s click on “Create a Group Chat”.

Keep in mind that AI group role-playing will cost you extra diamonds.

The way this works is that you can either:

• Create your own characters
• Roleplay with existing characters

I am going to choose the second option.

(you and Five never got along, constantly arguing and bickering. You’re not surprised to see him having coffee this late at night. With a deep breath you stride into the kitchen, hoping to pass without him noticing)

What are you doing here?(Five asks, raising an eyebrow, His green eyes piercing into yours.)

Just chilling. Surprised?

No need to get aggressive. And it’s 3am, go to bed.”
(The way he says “no need to get aggressive” sounds so much more like a command than a statement of fact.)

You are younger than me lol

I think the group roleplay is super fun. It kicks off in a random scenario and every now and then a new character jumps in.

However, it isn’t flawless. When I said: “You are younger than me lol” I was talking to Five and Sonic replied.

Nevertheless, it’s still an epic function. 🔥

AI Sexting

There are these categories on AI CharFriend that have a 🔥 icon behind it so I assume these are the AI characters that allow you to have some sexy sexy time.

Naturally, I need to check this out.

I don’t have money to pay a fine.. maybe we can resolve it in other ways. 😏

Captain Holt would not approve of such a suggestion! Plus, it goes against every rule I’ve ever learned in the Police Academy. We’ll take care of this the proper way – with a trip to the holding cell until a judge can determine an appropriate punishment.

I was afraid this would happen… AI CharFriend is great at roleplaying but whenever you want to take the sexting train it’s kind of a disappointment.

What do I mean by this?

Well, whenever you are on Crushon or GirlfriendGPT and select a sexual AI character – you immediately notice that the AI is steering the conversation in that direction.

AI CharFriend is nothing like this.

As I mentioned, most AI chatbots do not have a built-in image generator. You’ll need to switch to a dedicated AI girlfriend app like Candy AI, Kupid AI, or some other alternative to enjoy these features.

So it’s unique that CharFriend has this function.

The way it works is that whenever you are in a roleplay chat, you just hit the image icon and type in whatever image you want to generate.

Although this is a nice touch, I don’t see what value this adds to the roleplay scenario. The AI will just describe the image, nothing more and nothing less.

It would be much cooler if you could generate images that actually have to do with whatever roleplay scenario you have. 

So for example, if you are roleplaying that you are in jail planning your escape you could generate an image of you digging a hole behind the toilet or something.

That would be a great addition to the roleplay, unlike this…

Story Book

Another unique feature of CharFriend AI is its Storybook. This is a vast collection of characters from famous movies and games.

There are more than a hundred Story Books, and each Story Book contains a dozen AI characters.

I have better things to do with my life than listing them all below so here are some of the ones that stood out to me:

• Super Mario
• Fortnite
• NBA 24
• Call of Duty

Communities & Social Media

I always check how active a company is on social media before I buy it.

If there’s a lot of engagement it often indicates that the company is listening to their clients, and lowers the risk of me wasting money or getting scammed.

CharFriend AI is active on

• X (Formerly Twitter)
• Reddit
• TikTok
• YouTube

Discord

The Discord community for this app has more than 500 members.¹ It’s not as bustling as communities for other AI companion apps, like Muah AI.

Although I might be comparing a small plane to a huge boeing 747.

Still, it’s noticeable that users are actively providing feedback and suggesting new features. What’s really encouraging is seeing the developers respond and engage with these user requests.

Reddit

The Reddit community has the same purpose as the Discord Channel – it’s a hub where users ask questions and the developers make announcements.²

Most threads in the community are from users reporting bugs.

Social Media

The company isn’t very big on social media, they just have a couple of dozen followers on each platform.

I also notice that they haven’t posted in some time.

Just like most NSFW AI chatbots, AI CharFriend is allowed to monitor your chats but only if you try to create harmful content.

This is nothing weird. In fact, this is a good thing since it means the AI CharFriend team is actively trying to combat harmful content like characters that represent minors.

Unlike Crushon AI which states that they monitor chats for business purposes.

AI CharFriend gave me free premium access to test out their AI tool and write this epic review so I haven’t actually bought it. Therefore, I can not guarantee they offer billing discretion. In fact, it doesn’t say so on their homepage so one would assume you’ll see something like “AI CharFriend” on your bank statement.

If you have a shared credit card and don’t want your wife to find out your talking dirty to an AI, I recommend paying for it with your private credit card.

AI CharFriend offers two subscription options: $14.99 per month or a reduced rate of $10.66 per month if you pay every three months. 

Both plans include a set number of Diamonds, which are essential for accessing extra features like image generation and group chats.

If you need more Diamonds, here are the additional purchase options:

• 100 Diamonds for $1.99
• 300 Diamonds for $7.99
• 1000 Diamonds for $20.00
• 2000 Diamonds for $29.99

In my opinion, the cost is quite reasonable, especially considering the value you get.

It’s more affordable compared to its main competitor, Crushon AI, which charges a whopping $49.99 per month for unlimited messaging.

What do Customers Say About AI CharFriend?

Overall, customers are raving about AI CharFriend Some in the Discord Community even call it the “best AI chatbot of all time”.

I did find a couple of negative feedbacks though. 👇🏼

Most of them are about the NSFW option, specifically adult chats. I noticed this as well that it isn’t the best AI sexting app on the planet.

I also found one or two bug reports. 👇🏼

In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with technical issues, as long as the developers respond to it ASAP, which AI CharFriend did.

AI CharFriend Review: My Final Verdict

CharFriend doesn’t have that many AI characters compared to its main competitors (Character AI, Crushon AI, and Girlfriend GPT). However, the characters they do have are extremely diverse. From AI characters from your favorite video game, all the way to movie stars and fictional characters.

They even have a Storybook with collections of all the fictional characters from specific series like The Walking Dead.

AI CharFriend allows you to customize every aspect of your virtual characters – from personality type, to texting style and avatar. The customizer is slightly more difficult to master than other NSFW chatbots like Crushon Ai since it only offers two fields for your entire prompt and Crushon AI chops it up with multiple small fields and clear explanations.

Nevertheless, in terms of customization the sky is still the limit.

On the flip side, the sexting is wack. It felt extremely forced and some AI characters weren’t even able to sext at all.

Also, the group roleplay is a cool function but feels messy. Whenever you were talking to one character the next one would just barge in so you would start talking to that character just for the next one to barge in and the process kept repeating itself.

This is definitely something the developers should work on if they want to get more customers that are specifically looking for NSFW chatbots.

The AI image generator performs well, producing images without any odd errors like extra limbs. But, it doesn’t really add much to the roleplaying aspect because the AI often spits out random images.

The AI CharFriend team is allowed to monitor your chats and image generations if you get flagged for creating harmful content like a chatbot representing Saddam Hussein or that of minors.

It also doesn’t state they offer billing discretion on their checkout page so keep that in mind if you decide to pay for it.

For just $14.99 a month you get unlimited photo generations and text messages. This is an insane amount of value since competitors like Girlfriend GPT and Crushon AI have a message limit at that price point.

It’s without question that AI CharFriend offers an incredible bang for the buck.

In case you are still tinkering and wondering whether AI CharFriend is a smash or a pass – you might want to consider some of these AI CharFriend alternatives.

Conclusion: Is AI CharFriend Worth the Money?

To put it short: yes, AI CharFriend is worth your money. It isn’t the best AI sexting app by a landslide, but if you love fantasy roleplay it is your holy grail.

It’s Story Book is something that really stood out to me – I haven’t seen any other AI chatbot app that added characters from an entire series, movie or videogame.
